Darren 　お盆休み

お盆はあっと言う間にきてそして過ぎ去っていきます。皆さんは素晴らしい休暇、
そしてエキサイティングなお休みをお過ごしになられたと思います。

私にとっては本当に休める時間でした、そして改めて日本とイギリスの休日について考えさせられるのであります。　
まずはじめに、本当に驚きというか、ラッキーというか、ここ日本では一年にいったい何日休みがとれるのだろうと。

なぜかというとイギリスのほとんどの人は（クリスマスや年始、イースターは除く）
自由に休める日は主に月曜日になるのですが、
バンクホリデーと呼ばれるものしかないのです。


バンクホリデーとはまさにその名の通りで銀行が業務を行わないときは、
その他のビジネスに関しても、また仕事をしないのでお休みになる事を言います。

昔は銀行がお休みすると商店も店じまいをします、そして人々は家で過ごすか、
（離れて暮らす）家族を訪ねたりします。
近年では店も営業するようになると、人々はバンクホリディを使って
寝貯めをしたり買い物や友人と会ったりして時間を過ごしています。

バンクホリディは年に３日しかなく、ここ日本のように、
お盆休みに旅行など出来るような充分な時間がイギリスにはありません。

祝日がこんなにも多くある国にいる自分って、おそらくラッキーなんでしょうね・・・

OBON...Has come and gone so quickly 
and I hope that you all had a wonderful rest or an exciting holiday period. 
As for me it was definitely a time for rest 
and got me thinking again about the differences in Holidays Japan and the UK have. 

Firstly its amazing (or lucky!) how many days off people get during the year here in Japan,
  because for most people in the UK the only FREE days off 
(aside from Christmas. New years and Easter) 
we get are called BANK HOLIDAYS which occur mainly on MONDAYS.

Bank holidays are exactly as they sound it means the banks cease all operation on these days 
and business and commerce also cease with it. 
In the old days Shops would also close on bank holidays 
and people would stay indoors or go and visit family, 
but as time has moved on shops stay open 
and people usually use the bank holidays to catch up on sleep, shopping and to meet friends.

There are only about 3 days in total which are bank holidays and 
they are not enough time for people in the UK to travel like people do
  during Obon here in Japan...

I guess I am very lucky to live in a country with so many public holidays.

8月もいよいよ最後ですね、最近では猛暑もひと段落ですがとても
不安定な天気が続いていますね、秋に向けて季節の変わり目なんでしょうが
雨や雷はいやなものです。

日本人は休まず働きものという世界のイメージは相変わらずだと思いますが
世界の他の国よりも休日・祝日って多いんですかね！？ちょっと意外でした。
しかし、そうでもしないときっと日本人は働き続けてしまうから、お休みは
やっぱりあった方がいいのでしょうね！その分ほかの国では有給などが取りやすい
のでしょうかね？それではまた来週！
